Sarah Skow Named 2018 YWCA Milestones Honoree for Volunteerism
December 1, 2018
Each year, the YWCA of Northwest Ohio honors the achievements of a Northwest Ohio-area woman in each of the following categories: of Arts, Business, Education, Government, Sciences, Social Services, and Volunteerism. The YWCA selects the recipient in each category based upon criteria including living or working in the Northwest Ohio area, demonstrating outstanding achievement or distinction in career and community work, exhibiting leadership qualities that will enable service as a role model, and service and achievement consistent with the YWCA’s mission.
For 2018, the YWCA chose Spengler Nathanson Partner Sarah K. Skow as its honoree in the category of Volunteerism. Sarah earned this honor through her dedicated work in community and professional organizations throughout the Toledo area. Sarah is engaged in a wide variety of boards and organizations, including the Board of Trustees of the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo (President), the Children’s Theater Workshop (President), Mom’s House Sisters-in-Law Mentoring Program, The University of Toledo College of Law Dean’s Advisory Council, The University of Toledo Law Alumni Association Board of Governors, ABLE/LAWO Board of Directors, the ABLE/LAWO Emerging Leaders Council (Founding Chair, 2011), and the City of Toledo’s Walbridge Park Advisory Board.
Sarah also has served on the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Professionalism Commission, the Ohio State Bar Association’s Board of Governors, the Toledo Bar Association’s Board of Trustees and Pro Bono Advisory Board, and she is a Past-President of the Toledo Jr. Bar Association and the Toledo Women’s Bar Association.
In addition to her efforts in established professional and community organizations, Sarah took the initiative several years ago to begin a grassroots campaign to collect feminine hygiene products for homeless and low income women and girls in the Toledo area. Her leadership in this effort over the past two years has led to the donation of thousands of products to over 15 different local organizations.
We are very proud of Sarah for receiving this honor, and for all of the hard work she does to help Toledo and the surrounding area.
